Kids Herbal Wisdom Summer Camps

May 28th-31st Kids Herbal Wisdom Summer Camp

Full Day Week Long Summer Camps - FIRST WEEK OF SUMMER 4 Days Camp

Full Day Week Long Summer Camps

Kids can learn age appropriate anatomy, sciences alongside herbology, they love learning if we supply opportunities!

When planning our own children's summer camps and week-long programs, searching for quality programs where there was some excitement about the magic and healing power of nature was hard to find. Lots of local Boulder programs incorporate nature, but few actually teach kids meaningful herbal medicine. So I had an idea. Why not run summer camps myself!

I have nearly three decades of herbal knowledge and have been a fully trained Tibetan physician credentialed since 2009. You can read about my qualifications here: Camp size is purposefully limited to ten kids and ages 6-11. Designed for younger kids, as well as those nearing the end of elementary age, there is an effort to have various ages to support each other's needs.

This will be hands on fun learning and play individuated to your kids. We will spend time exploring the garden, meeting plant allies and learning about how they grow in the garden, how they want to be harvested and processed and what benefits local plants, kitchen cabinet medicine and garden herbals provide in our lives.

Does your child believe in magic, witches and wizards? Let them take on this role for the week as they learn the beauty and power that herbal medicine has to offer. This does not have to be a make believe childhood that gets left behind!

The magic and wonder of nature as healer can be a reality, through embracing ancient wisdom and your child being able to carry this precious knowledge with them for the rest of their lives.

Make your own non-toxic bug spray, herbal teas for tummy upsets, learn herbal decoctions for fevers and how we deal with minor bodily issues all with plants they can meet and make friends with. Kids can learn valuable tidbits on systems of the body.

What is the respiratory system? How does digestion work? What herbs are good for a cold and cough, what is good for a headache? What local tree has SPF 15 in its bark? We will have a little science, outside and kitchen herbal classrooms, fun in exploring nearby open space where stick forts and imagination blend with local herbs.

Kids can pack a swimsuit Tuesdays and Thursdays to include some good old fashioned running through the sprinkler fun. A good blend of fun, and structured learning will fill their days with adventure. Monday-Friday the days will be filled with fun learning they can bring home and share with family forever.

Approaching Ngöndro & Buddhist Practices According to Our Elemental Nature: Tibetan Medicine Methods for Balance in Practice

Approaching Ngöndro & Buddhist Practices According to Our Elemental Nature: Tibetan Medicine Methods for Balance in Practice

with

Dr. Nashalla Gwyn Nyinda

Friday, March 8

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. MST

Saturday, March 9

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. MST

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. MST

Often said, “The most excellent medicine is Dharma.” This statement relates to antidoting of our habits, tendencies, preferences and patterns, all which pull us away from clarity and luminous wisdom. Simple Buddhist pathophysiology explains how Dharma moves in bodily form and within our minds. For thousands of years, such methodologies have been used in traditional Tibetan Medicine, Sowa Rigpa, The Science of Healing to aid yogic and Buddhist practitioners.

No one method of Buddhist practice is “most effective” for all people, yet preliminaries clear obstacles and specific meditations are applied for specific energies. Applying a balanced approach suited to one’s individual body, elements, and mind typology aids significantly in cultivation of wisdom states. Understanding how elements reflect within and upon us is why teachers meet with students as they progress along their path, to give guidance with inner patterns.

Embark on a journey of self-reflection.

Through these talks, you will learn to embrace and recognize yourself fundamentally. Relating to our three root poisons, unique attributes set through karmic propensity and the overlay of the elements helps ameliorate obstacles and physical disorders in Buddhist practice and bodily experience.

Learn time-tested Tibetan philosophy to increase and deepen Buddhist practices.

Discover essential antidotes to common mental and physical developments arising from one’s unique elemental patterns. Associations of these patterns to our mental and physical manifestations brings greater discernment to our individual needs in Buddhist practice. In turn, this frees us from perceptions and projections, opening our mind-body to a more peaceful and productive journey.

In-person and live stream attendance options available!

Eliminating Ignorance: Approaching the Three Root Poisons for Body, Speech and Mind ~ Tibetan Medicine’s Approach to Buddhist Mind Training

Eliminating Ignorance:

Approaching the Three Root Poisons for Body, Speech and Mind ~ Tibetan Medicine’s Approach to Buddhist Mind Training

with

Dr. Nashalla Gwyn Nyinda

Saturday, February 24

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. MST

The Buddha taught the root cause of suffering is ignorance or unknowing. Ignorance forms the three root poisons and five aggregates, which we habitually cling to and repeat through our thoughts and actions to perpetuate suffering. As we develop in mindfulness, we embrace knowing ourselves. Cultivation of the wisdom we all possess increases our capacity for awakening.

For thousands of years, medicine, psychology, and Dharma in Tibet were interconnected, propagating a more profound balance within body, speech, and mind.

This talk will explore fundamental aspects of Buddhist Mind Training from the tradition of Sowa Rigpa, The Science of Healing. Learn tools to develop insight in formal mediation practice and everyday choices to penetrate and illuminate our wisdom states.

In-person and live stream attendance options available!

The excerpt below is from Dr. Nyinda’s article: THE ART OF DIAGNOSIS: A PRACTICE INPERCEPTION AND COMPASSION

“Working with diagnosis in the Tibetan Medicine model is an art form based on a combination of education, intimacy with the elements, and pure direct perception. Cultivating a deeper level of interaction, employing psychology between doctor and patient creates the best possible outcome in determining the actual disease and circumstances creating imbalance. More profound accuracy of diagnostics requires faith and trust between doctor and patient. This opens a gateway for a pure vision of symptoms and the bodily, mental and/or spiritual aspects involved. The spiritual interchange between doctor and patient plays a much more significant role than immediately considered in the typical western biomedicine model.”  Read more here.

This introductory course connects the foundations of Tibetan Medical theory and practice to clinical use of food, both as antidote and preventive medicine in the modern clinic. We explore the essential instructions derived from the 16th-20th chapters of the Explanatory Tantra and apply their relevance in modern nutritional concepts, healthy diet and disease management.

In the Tibetan tradition, nutrition is one of the ways to treat, along with lifestyle, medicinal therapy and external treatments. Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in the prevention of diseases.

Dr. Nyinda will talk about medical nutrition, sowa rigpa and will hold analogies with modern recommendations of nutritiologists.

An overview of modern food products that constitute a regular diet of a metropolis resident will also be made.

This course focuses on the integration of ancient knowledge into modern living conditions. The course will provide clear explanations on how to navigate the subject, how to distinguish a scientific approach in dietitics from dilettos.

We will discuss separately how to determine the properties of those products that can be found on the store shelves.

How to evaluate modern food from the perspective of Tibetan Medicine. Dr. Nyinda will talk about the differences in food products obtained in the traditional way described in ancient texts and food produced massively at farms or plants, often using chemical agents.

Is there really a difference between the same products obtained in different ways and why? Special attention will be paid to maintaining intestines microbiota. In fact, ancient texts provide detailed instructions on this, but unusual language to us, Dr. Nyinda will help translate these instructions into terms of modern nutritiology and describe in categories of modern products.
